Frequently Asked Questions
Knowledge is power. Here are the questions I hear most often from new patients.
The number of treatments needed before you feel the benefits varies depending on your condition, how long you've had it, and how your body responds. Acupuncture is a safe and complementary therapy for most health conditions and can usually reduce most symptoms you're experiencing.
About 80% of my patients feel some improvement after just one visit. I typically recommend starting with weekly sessions. Once your symptoms have decreased, I'll recommend coming every other week to make sure your body can hold its renewed state over a longer period without acupuncture.
I love a challenge, but I encourage my patients to come see me sooner rather than later. Acupuncture is a preventative medicine, and I encourage everyone to come for wellness check-ups once every season — even if you feel well.
Can acupuncture help me? How long until I see results?
The needles I use are incredibly thin much finer than anything you've encountered at a doctor's office. Most patients feel little to no discomfort when they're inserted. Some people feel a slight tingling or a dull sensation, which is actually a sign that the Qi is moving. Please always communicate with me if you're uncomfortable at any point. This should be a relaxing experience. Most of my patients call it their nap time!
Do the needles hurt?
During your initial consultation, I'll sit down with you to talk about your current symptoms, lifestyle, and health history. I'll perform a Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis, including tongue and pulse assessment, to understand what's happening in your body. Then I'll have you lie down on a comfortable treatment table in your private room. Thin needles will be inserted based on my diagnosis, personalized to your needs. You'll rest with the needles in for at least 30 minutes — this is the part patients love. I'll then remove the needles and provide recommendations for optimal results. Always drink lots of water after your treatment!
What should I expect during my first visit?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. T-shirts, tank tops, sweatpants, yoga pants, or loose shorts work well. This allows me to easily access the areas I need to treat. You'll be asked to remove your shoes before getting on the treatment table. The goal is for you to feel relaxed and comfortable.

Do the needles hurt?
No. Acupuncture needles are made of medical-grade stainless steel and are very thin — similar to the width of a hair. They don't contain any medication. The purpose of acupuncture is to stimulate specific points on your body, triggering the release of your body's own natural healing mechanisms.
Do the needles have medicine on them?
With standard microneedling (collagen induction therapy), you may experience mild redness — similar to a light sunburn — for 24 to 48 hours. Nanoneedling, however, has zero downtime and is perfect if you need an immediate glow for a special event.
Is there any downtime with microneedling?
The Acupuncture Point is a proud provider for TriWest, honoring VA benefits for our veterans. For all other patients, we operate as a self-pay practice.
I’ve chosen this model intentionally. It allows me to invest 100% of my energy into your care rather than navigating the complexities of insurance paperwork. I believe the quality and frequency of your treatments should be guided by your health needs, never by what an insurance company approves.
Reimbursement OptionsWhile we do not bill insurance companies directly, I want to ensure you have the best opportunity to utilize your benefits:
Superbills: Upon request, I can provide you with a superbill (a detailed medical receipt). You can submit this directly to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
HSA/FSA: Most Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts cover acupuncture services.
By prioritizing this direct-pay model, we ensure that your wellness—and the time we spend achieving it—remains our only focus.
Do you accept insurance?
